Donald E. "Donnie" Girdler

Mr. Donald E. “Donnie” Girdler, son of Mildred Sears Girdler and the late Henry P. Girdler, was born in Somerset, KY on February 6, 1948 and he departed this life on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the residence of his daughter having attained the age of 63 years. Other than his mother, he is also survived by; one daughter, Jennifer (and Steven) Johnson of Nancy, KY; one sister, Carol (and Steve) Dunn; two brothers, Jack and Jerry Girdler all of Somerset, KY; two grandchildren, Dillon and Lacy Johnson, a host of nieces and nephews, and two very special care givers, Brenda Smith and Marie Smith. Donnie adhered to the Baptist faith and was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church of Nancy, Ky. He was also a U.S. Marine Veteran having actively served his country from 1967 through 1969 where he reached the rank of Corporal. He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, a police officer for the Savannah Police Department in Savannah, GA. He was a detective for the Office of Commonwealth Attorney and served as a Congressional Aide for Congressman Hal Rogers for many years. He has also served as Deputy Judge Executive for Pulaski County. Donnie’s political savvy was highly sought after for countless local, state, and federal campaigns. He was a friend and trusted advisor to Congressman Hal Rogers, as well as a number of political leaders across the Commonwealth. Donnie dedicated many years of service to the Pulaski County Republican Party and the Pulaski County Lincoln Club. He was actively involved in the campaigns for George H. Walker Bush, Bob Dole and George W. Bush. He was also a 2004 KY Elector for George W. Bush. Donnie was a wonderful father, who will be greatly missed by a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Dunn and Bro. Reggie Tipton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery. The family of Mr. Donnie Girdler will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m. Wed. Jan. 11, 2012. In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Donnie Girdler.
