Loyd G. Jasper, Somerset, KY passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at the Neighborhood of Somerset Nursing Facility, having attained the age of 77. Loyd was born in Somerset, Kentucky on July 8, 1934 to the late Ernest and Lola Jasper of Somerset. He was united in marriage on December 23, 1953 in Somerset to Mary Joanne Ramsey of Somerset. They shared 58 happy years together living in Somerset and most recently enjoyed retirement in the Florida Keys. She survives him. Loyd lived and loved life to the fullest. He loved hunting with his bird dogs, enjoyed camping at Cumberland Point, and had many happy memories house boating with his Conley Bottom (“Houseboat Holler”) friends. He will be best remembered by his grandchildren as their loving and generous, Pop-Pop. He is survived by his two sons and their wives: Bruce (and Linda) Jasper and Bill (and Angie) Jasper, both of Somerset. He is also survived by his grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Matthew Jasper of Asheville, North Carolina, Mary Katherine “Katie” Jasper (and Dylan) Smith of Somerset, Katie Brannick of Nashville, Tennessee, and Emily Brannick of Somerset. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his five sisters: Marie Simpson, Ernestine Schoolcraft, Bernice Rice, Edna Decker, and Marion Adams. Other survivors include his brothers-in-law: Herman Schoolcraft, Somerset; Albert Decker of Smyrna, GA, and William (and Phyllis) Ramsey of Okemos, MI. Loyd was a proud graduate of Somerset High School. Upon graduation, he served his country in the 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Upon completion of his military service, he continued his education, graduating from the University of Kentucky with his degree in Business and Accounting. He and Joanne then moved to Florida where he worked in the accounting field returning to Somerset in the early 1960’s to assist his father with the management of Baisley Hardware and the local International Harvester dealership. He began his banking career in the late 1960’s at Mutual Federal Savings and Loan (now part of BB&T Bank, Somerset), retiring in 1998 as its President/CEO. Loyd was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Somerset where he was a former deacon. He also served his community as the Rotary Club of Somerset’s long time treasurer and as a board member for the Industrial Foundation, United Way, and Somerset City Hospital. He was board member and President of the Central Kentucky League of Savings Associations and was a founding board member of Lake Cumberland Home Health Agency, Somerset. The family wishes to express great appreciation to Sharon Reynolds, director, and the entire staff of the Neighborhood of Somerset for their loving care of Loyd. Visitation for Loyd G. Jasper will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 am until time for funeral services there at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Pulaski County Alzheimer’s Disease Respite Center, P.O. Box 393, Somerset, KY 42502. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Jasper.
