Scott Alexander Marshall, 72, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away after a 5 year battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Lake Cumberland Regional hospital.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 13, 1939, Scott received his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Alabama. He retired after thirty-three years of teaching Business and Economics at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. After moving to Somerset, Kentucky, in 2000, he continued as an Adjunct Professor of Economics at Eastern Kentucky University.
Since moving to Somerset, he served as a member of the Adanta Board of Directors and Co-Chair of the Finance Committee. He also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. of Somerset, where he served as an Elder and Co-Chair of the Worship Committee. Previously, he had served as an Elder of Huffman Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. in Birmingham, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, (Emma) Jo Grimes Marshall of Somerset, Kentucky. Also surviving are his children: Kristin Marshall Henderson (Chad) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Scott Alexander Marshall, Jr. MD (Katie) of San Antonio, Texas; three grandsons, Marshall Earl Henderson (4), Chad Patrick Henderson (3), and Scott Alexander Marshall III (2); his sister Judy Marshall Wallace (Paul) of Birmingham, Alabama, and niece Shelley Elizabeth Wallace of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Bernard Grimes (Mary Ann), and Thermon Grimes (Joyce), and nieces, nephews and cousins from Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Muir Marshall and Helen Abell Marshall, both of Birmingham, Alabama.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 8, from 6-8 p.m. EST at First Presbyterian Church of Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 9, at 11:00 a.m. EST at First Presbyterian Church.
Graveside service and interment will be held on Saturday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. CST at Rose Hill Cemetery, County Road 77/Rose Hill Road, Dozier, Alabama, 36028.
The family will also receive visitors on Sunday, September 11, from 3-5 p.m. CST at Homewood Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 513 Old Columbiana Road, Homewood, Alabama, 35209.
