Mr. George H. Pennington, son of the late George Thomas and Emma Clarine Garrett Pennington, was born in Pulaski County, KY on November 9, 1950 and he departed this life on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Somerset, KY having attained the age of 60 years.
He was united in marriage to Mrs. Yvonne Boatwright Pennington on August 30, 1982. She survives. Other survivors include; one daughter, Betsy Pennington of Lexington, KY; two brothers, John (and Maxine) Goggins of Lexington, KY, and Paul (and Stephanie) Pennington of Midland PA; three sisters, Anna M. Whittington of Lompoc, CA , Carolyn M. (and Simone) Arrington of Ft. Washington, MD, and Sarah L. (and Arnold) Coffey of Lexington, KY, and a large host of relatives, and friends who mourn his passing.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by; one son; Quinston Pennington, and the following brothers and sisters, Robert Goggins, Charles Robert Pennington, Gerald D. Pennington, William Pennington, Thomas Pennington, Emma C. Mimms, Zona M. Simpson, Mary J. Goggins, Kathleen Jenkins, Helen Strong, Ruth Baker, and Irene Slaughter.
George was a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher, and he was also a retired employee of the General Electric Somerset Glass Plant. He enjoyed fishing, and gardening, and he was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan, Cincinnati Bengal’s Fan and University of Kentucky Basketball fan. He corresponded frequently with Tubby Smith when he was the coach at U.K.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Seibert Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family of Mr. George H. Pennington will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011 and from 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church until time for services.
