Cecil L. Baker, 1281 Pole Bridge Road, Nancy, KY, departed this life Thursday, August 4, 2011, at his home having attained the age of 93 years. He was born in the Trimble Community of Pulaski County, KY, February 20, 1918, the son of the late George Mentle and Martha Harriet Mills Baker.
He was united in marriage to Marie Trimble Baker on March 11, 1939. She preceded him in death. Survivors include one brother, Doyle Baker, and his wife Marian, of Lexington, KY; one son, Roy Lee Baker, and his wife Brenda, of Nancy, KY; one daughter-in-law, Lucile Baker, of Forrest City, Arkansas; two grandsons, Brian Lee Baker, and his wife Jennifer; and Jeremy Neil Baker, all of Somerset, KY; two great-grandchildren, Jack Thomas Baker and Ella Marie Baker, both of Somerset, KY; two step-grandchildren, Holden Raines and Rebekah Moore, both of Forrest City, Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Prather, Cella Daulton, and Jewell Thornton; two brothers, Paul Baker and Robert Baker; one son, Dana Baker; and a step-granddaughter, Tonya Moore.
Cecil was a farmer and an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church No. 1, Nancy, KY, where he had been a deacon since a young man. He served in various other positions within the church throughout his lifetime; such as, trustee, song leader, and Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He loved his church, his community, his family, and his friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2011, at Oak Grove Baptist Church No. 1, Nancy, KY, with Brother Glenn Singleton and Pastor Stanley Stevenson officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Nancy, KY.
The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home after 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2011, and at Oak Grove Baptist Church No. 1 after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011, until time for the funeral service.
