Mr. James Luid Hammond

Mr. James Luid Hammond, son of the late Harvey and Arizona Dalton Hammond, was born in Wayne County, KY on December 10, 1930 and he was called home by his Lord from this life on Monday, July 11, 2011 in Somerset, KY having attained the age of 80 years. He was first united in marriage to Mrs. Ruth Hutton Hammond, four daughters blessed this union; Phyllis (and Paul) Jones of Ohio, Pam Lones of Kentucky, Pat (and Jeff) Szczepanski of Ohio and Amy (and Jeff) Welch of Ohio. Other survivors include; eleven grandchildren, Nathan Jones, Malachi Lones, Moriah Lones, Meredith Rose, Jennifer Kepler, Tiffany Bentley, Jeremy Szczepanski, Amanda Welch, Logan Welch, Luke Welch, and Justin Welch, and 10 great grandchildren. He was later united in marriage to Betty Jo Flynn Hammond, she preceded him in death. Other than his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by his older sister, Opal Morrow who raised him from an early age in life, and several other brothers and sisters. Luid was a Korean war veteran, and a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church, he was also a life member of the DAV post 105, life member of the VFW post 269, a 28 year member of the American Legion Post # 38, Amvets Post 125, an honorary Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Pulaski County Lincoln Club, and last but not least, a member of the Pulaski County Veteran Post 100. Luid was a kind gentle christian man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and church family who, together, mourn his passing and also celebrate his home-coming Funeral services for Mr. James Luid Hammond will be held at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:00a.m. with Bro. Alan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38. The family of Mr. James Luid Hammond will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. James Luid Hammond.
