Margie Farmer Edwards

December 25, 1926 — May 23, 2011

Margie Farmer Edwards, 84, of Somerset, Kentucky, widow of John William "Bill" Edwards, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born in Poplarville, Kentucky on December 25, 1926, daughter of the late Ella Wyatt and Cy Hampton Farmer. She was the fourth and youngest child of her parents, a beautiful, bright and gifted child. At age 13 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, was baptized in Buck Creek and was a supportive member of the Poplarville Baptist Church. She became a member of the East Somerset Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended for more than fifty years. While she was a youngster, Margie worked with her siblings and parents with various farm chores and was an eager and intelligent student in all her studies. Her beauty as a teenager was not missed by anyone. As a young adult during World War II, she and her sisters, along with other girls from her community, moved to Norwood, Ohio to work in factories for the war effort. When her two children began attending school, Margie worked as a retail merchant to help support her family while her husband traveled many miles as a long-distance truck driver. Family members who survive include her daughter, Cheryl Jean Edwards Burnett & (Gary), grandson, Gary Michael Burnett Jr. and granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Edwards Burnett of Lexington. She is also survived by a special sibling, Robert Eugene Russell & (Brenda) and children, one nephew, Howard Russell Farmer and his three daughters, two nieces, Diane Farmer Warren & (Charles) and Doris Dean "Dee-Dee" Meece. Her deceased son's widow, Linda Edwards also survives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Bill Edwards, her husband of 59 years, her beloved son, John William "Johnny" Edwards Jr., two sisters, Ruby F. Meece and Retha F. Farmer, older brother, Floyd M. Farmer and her nephew, Don Meece. A tragic accident on March 1, 2011, in which Margie was critically injured, eventually took her life. Prior to this major impact on her life, Margie was in normal good health for a person of her age. Margie lived a life of commitment to Christian principles and appreciated the gift of life on Earth. However, as a Christian woman of strong faith, she had no fear of death and truly looked forward to all the wonderful promises for the future that are found in the Holy Bible. All who know her can rejoice that she is in Heaven with Jesus Christ and all her family and friends who have become Saints in Heaven. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Darvie Fenison officiating. Burial will be in Poplarville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 PM to 9 PM Wednesday at Pulaski Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Poplarville Cemetery Fund, c/o Ben Barnett, 2090 Clay Hill Rd., Somerset, KY 42501. Pulaski Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
