Clara Dean Vaughn Jasper, 97 years, 6 months and 24 days of Somerset passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born August 25, 1913 in the Slate Branch Community to Virgil Moore Vaughn and Rhoda Pierce Lester Vaughn.
Clara was united in marriage on December 24, 1936 to George Galen Jasper for 52 years until his passing on January 18, 1989. To this union there were born 10 children, 7 of whom survive. Clifford P. (Millie) Jasper, James (Michelle) Jasper, Doris Randall (Oscar) Woods, Georgia Lou (Elwood) Hunt, Ruth (Jim) Jeffers, Barbara (David) Burton and Arlene (Bert) Young, son-in-law; Clifton Sonny Dykes, daughter-in-laws; Norma and Nina Jasper, sister-in-laws Nora and Sylvia Jasper all of Somerset. Clara also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Clara had 19 grandchildren; Bruce (Lisa) Hail, Jeffery (Rhonda) Hail, Pamela (Brad) Ping, Mark Hail, Lisa (Jimmy) Flowers, Victor (Susie) Jasper, Danna (Alex) Polo, Dreama Dykes, Dinah Groce, Donovan Dykes, Marty (Karen) Hunt, Troy Hunt, Amey (Brian) Herald, Cliff Jasper Jr. and Summer Dalton, Allison Jasper and Jesse Scott, Bryan (Julia) Rogers, Travis (Cindy) Rogers, Robyn (Scot) Bradley, and Jaden Brooke Jasper.
Clara had 37 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a special friend Jeanette Compton Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 3 children; Virgil Jasper, Roberta Dykes, Galen Jasper and a granddaughter Christi Lee Jasper and her 9 brothers and sisters.
Clara was saved at the age of 13 at Slate Branch Baptist Church and Baptized at Fishing Creek by Pastor John A. Jones. She taught Sunday School and was a dedicated Christian and a 85 year member of Slate Branch Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Hughes and Roses department store. In her later years she enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family and was a devoted Kentucky basketball wildcat fan. She voted for the first time at age 21 in 1934 for her unbeknown future father-in-law Claud Jasper for PC School Board and has voted ever since for 63 years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. J.S New and Bro. Bruce Conley officiating. Burial will follow in the Slate Branch Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Jasper will receive friends on Thursday, March 24, 2011 after 6-8 p.m. at Pulaski Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be; Bruce Hail, Jeff Hail, Mark Hail, Victor Jasper, Donovan Dykes, Marty Hunt, Troy Hunt, Clifford Jasper Jr., Bryan Rogers and Travis Rogers.
